Prague replaces bus routes with electric trolleybuses

Starting November 2, Prague will replace bus routes 131 and 176 with electric trolleybus routes 51 and 53. This transition is part of a broader city initiative to electrify public transport on the western side of the Vltava River to reduce emissions and noise.

Trolleybus route 51 will connect Bořislavka and Hradčanská, while route 53 will serve the route between Karlovo náměstí and Stadion Strahov. Both services will utilize modern, low-floor, air-conditioned Bozankaya SNG 12T vehicles. During weekday rush hours, route 51 is expected to run every four to six minutes, and route 53 every six to eight minutes.

To mark the end of the bus lines, Prague 6 Mayor Jakub Stárek announced special rides featuring historical buses, including the Škoda 706 RTO, Karosa B951E, and Irisbus Citybus, on the final Friday of service.
