Prague sees extensive bridge and street reconstruction disrupting traffic

Work on the historic Hlávka Bridge in Prague has begun, requiring a complete halt to tram services and narrowing the road to a single lane toward Holešovice. The reconstruction, aimed at repairing corroded reinforced‑concrete slabs from 1911 and 1962, will also involve strengthening the bridge decks and installing a 216‑metre mobile shoring cage. Simultaneously, the roof slab above the main railway station’s departure hall is being rebuilt, a project that will run until 2028 and cause additional lane reductions on the main thoroughfare.

On Kbelská street, contractors have finished drainage works and are now laying new high‑load‑capacity road layers as part of a 580‑million‑Czech‑koruna upgrade. The three‑kilometre section, narrowed to one lane each way, is expected to remain under restrictions until mid‑August. The new pavement, 20 cm thick, is designed to endure heavy truck traffic and improve winter performance.
