Prague to install air‑conditioning in Škoda 15T tram fleet

The Prague Public Transport Company (DPP) has signed a framework contract with Polish firm ENIKA to install air‑conditioning units in its Škoda 15T trams. The winning bid was 3.217 million CZK per vehicle, totalling about 395.7 million CZK for all 123 trams, roughly 36 million CZK below the original estimate. ENIKA will carry out the work in the MPK Łódź facilities in Poland, with at least 20 trams to be equipped each year. The first unit is scheduled for installation in July, after which it will undergo homologation and testing in Prague before further orders are placed.

The upgrade follows a long‑standing issue: the original 15T order omitted climate control and the technical documentation needed for third‑party modifications. This created a vendor lock‑in with Škoda Transportation, which demanded high prices for retrofitting. Political debate highlighted the earlier procurement mistakes and legal uncertainties surrounding the tender. The new contract aims to resolve these problems and gradually modernise the capital’s tram fleet, with each tram receiving three eco‑friendly refrigerant units and a 60‑month warranty.
