Czech Republic advances major transport and rail infrastructure projects

Major transport infrastructure projects are underway across the Czech Republic. In Prague, the city has selected a consortium led by SMP Construction for a 6.2 billion CZK project to build the Smíchov transport terminal. This facility will integrate trains, metro, trams, and buses, including a new P+R parking house. Additionally, construction has begun on a new 1.3 km tram line connecting Malovanka to Strahov, with trial operations expected by mid-2028.

In Brno, the railway administration (Správa železnic) is seeking a designer for the reconstruction of the main station and surrounding railway hub, with construction planned for the early 2030s. Meanwhile, efforts are being made to revive a defunct tram line in Brno, connecting Černovice to Líšně.

On a national scale, the first preparatory works for the Czech high-speed rail (VRT) network are approaching. Správa železnic has issued a tender for the construction of replacement biotopes near the future Hranice na Moravě to Ostrava-Svinov route, with work expected to start in December 2026. Other regional updates include the reopening of the Petřín funicular following extensive reconstruction.
