Czech transport projects cause extensive traffic disruptions

A series of road reconstruction and upgrade projects across the Czech Republic are proceeding according to schedule, but they involve temporary traffic restrictions, lane reductions and detours. In Prague's Kbelská Street, the first phase of reconstruction finished without incident and the second half will be milled on 24 July, with two‑way traffic operating in a 1 + 1 regime. Similar works are underway on the Rataje‑Malovidy stretch (nearly 100 million CZK), the Rudná Street in Ostrava (155 million CZK), the Palkovice–Frýdek‑Místek connector (15 million CZK), the D11 corridor between Poděbrady and Sadská, and other regional arteries. The projects include full‑depth asphalt replacement, drainage upgrades and bridge repairs, often lasting several weeks and sometimes requiring complete closure for heavy trucks. The authorities have published detour routes and advise drivers to follow temporary signage. Railway infrastructure is also being modernised, with a new dual‑track tunnel between Prague and Beroun projected to cost 76 billion CZK and a renovated viaduct in Klatovy scheduled for completion by November 2026. Overall, the works aim to improve road safety, traffic flow and long‑term capacity, but motorists should expect reduced speeds, occasional lane closures and the need to use alternative routes during the construction periods.
