Heavy rainfall causes flooding and waterlogging in Prayagraj, Rewa, and Birsingpur

Heavy rainfall has caused widespread waterlogging and flood-like conditions across several regions in India, including Prayagraj, Rewa, and Birsingpur.

In Prayagraj, continuous torrential rain led to water levels reaching approximately 5 feet in some areas. District Magistrate Manish Kumar Verma attributed the severity to choke points in 20 to 25-year-old underground drainage systems. Authorities had to break sections of roads to clear these blockages and deploy pumps to drain the water from low-lying areas such as George Town, Tagore Town, and Allapur.

In Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, 15 hours of continuous rain disrupted daily life and caused flooding in low-lying areas. The rising water levels of the Behar River also impacted residential areas, including the home of local MLA Nagendra Singh. Authorities have advised residents to stay away from rivers and drainage channels.

In Birsingpur, excessive rainfall caused water to enter numerous homes. Local officials, including Tehsildar Dr. Shailendra Sharma, have ordered surveys to assess damage and directed the provision of food and drinking water to affected families while working to improve drainage.
