Prayagraj faces severe flooding as Ganga and Yamuna rivers rise

Prayagraj is facing a severe flood crisis as water levels in the Ganga and Yamuna rivers continue to rise, inundating residential areas, ghats, and major roads including the Ganga River Front road. The administration has issued a red alert, establishing relief camps and monitoring the situation closely as families struggle to move belongings to safer ground.

Amidst the flooding, a local spiritual site near the Jhunsi bridge has drawn attention. An ‘Akhand Jyoti’ (eternal flame), which has been burning for approximately 20 years, remains lit inside a protective glass structure 80 feet above the water level. Ramdas Maharaj, known as ‘Machan wale Baba’, continues to reach the elevated ashram by boat to maintain the flame, which is dedicated to the welfare of humanity and religion.
