President Bassirou Diomaye Faye Faces Criticism Over Politicized Public Jobs and Coalition Appointments

Deputy Thierno Alassane Sall accused President Bassirou Diomaye Faye’s administration of turning public employment into a political tool, alleging mass dismissals and the appointment of loyalists through disguised contracts. He cited the National Housing Agency (SN‑HLM), the Emergency Programme for Modernising Border Roads (PUMA) and the Senegalese Radio‑Television (RTS) as examples where workers were replaced, creating hardship for families.

Secretary‑General Siré Sy warned the president not to repeat coalition‑management errors, saying recent allies received key public posts while founding members who helped fund and campaign for the coalition were overlooked. Both critics argue the practices undermine merit‑based governance and risk social fallout.
