President Bassirou Diomaye Faye to visit Tivaouane for Mawlid

Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye is scheduled to visit Tivaouane next Friday for his traditional presidential ziarra. This visit precedes the Mawlid (Gamou) celebrations, which are set for Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

During the visit, the President will be received by the General Caliph of the Tidiane brotherhood, Serigne Babacar Sy Mansour. The announcement was made by Serigne Habib Sy following a religious session in the holy city. The visit is part of an established tradition where the head of state pays respects to the family of Seydi El Hadj Malick Sy.

The 2026 Gamou theme is ‘Together, think and act by the word of Unicity (Tawhid)’, focusing on divine unity to promote social cohesion, peace, and justice. The event is one of the most significant religious gatherings in West Africa, attracting thousands of worshippers.
