President Bola Tinubu Approves Major Road Projects and Renames Lagos‑Calabar Highway

President Bola Tinubu approved a 400‑kilometre extension of the Fourth Legacy Highway, bringing the corridor to roughly 1,100 km, and authorized the reconstruction of the Lagos‑Ibadan Expressway with reinforced‑concrete pavement. He also signed off on the completion of the abandoned Ibi Bridge, the 5.76‑km Lau Bridge over the Benue River, and the dualisation of an additional 400 km of the East‑West Road.

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, announced that the Lagos‑Calabar Coastal Highway will be renamed the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Coastal Highway, citing Tinubu’s original vision for the project as Lagos governor 27 years ago. Construction is progressing on multiple sections, with the Eleko‑to‑Lagos‑Ogun stretch expected to be substantially complete by November.

In the South‑East, Governor Chukwuma Soludo welcomed Tinubu’s approval of design and procurement for two federal roads – the 108‑km Otuocha‑Anam‑Abaji Road (linking Anambra to Kogi) and the 150‑km Oba‑Nnewi‑Uga‑Ihube Road (connecting Anambra and Imo to the Enugu‑Port Harcourt Expressway). Soludo said, “I can’t contain my joy…these roads are critical game‑changers for the South‑East, South‑South and North‑Central.”

Separately, the APC Delta Mandate passed a unanimous vote of confidence in President Tinubu and Delta Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, urging intensified grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
