President Jotova discusses EU budget and security with Roberta Metsola

Bulgarian President Iliana Jotova met with European Parliament President Roberta Metsola in Strasbourg to discuss several key European Union priorities. A central topic of the discussion was the EU's Multiannual Financial Framework for the 2028–2034 period. Jotova expressed concerns regarding the proposed new philosophy for fund distribution, noting fears that it could disadvantage less developed member states.

Security and migration were also prominent themes. Jotova emphasized the need for strengthened EU security in light of conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, highlighting the strategic importance of the Black Sea for European stability. Regarding migration, discussions focused on protecting the EU's external borders and the repatriation of migrants to their countries of origin. Jotova noted that Bulgaria actively contributes to the protection of the Union as an external border state.

Additionally, the leaders discussed the potential creation of a European Security Council and the importance of improving coordination between the European Parliament and national parliaments.
