President Keiko Fujimori has announced that her administration will request legislative powers from the Peruvian Congress this week to combat rising crime. In response to demands from the transport sector, the government has established coordination tables with various unions. Measures announced include reducing transport fines to ten percent of their nominal cost for a set period and implementing new guidelines for distributing up to S/105 million in subsidies. To protect victims of extortion, the Ministry of the Interior is also deploying an encrypted digital platform for reporting crimes.
