President Keiko Fujimori prays for Pope Leo XIV's health

Peruvian President Keiko Fujimori attended a mass at the Sanctuary of Las Nazarenas in Lima to pray for the health of Pope Leo XIV. During the Eucharistic ceremony, which was presided over by the Archbishop of Lima, Cardinal Carlos Castillo, the President requested strength and health for the pontiff so that he may continue to lead the Catholic Church.

The religious service included several members of the Peruvian cabinet, including the ministers of Foreign Affairs, Defense, Interior, Justice, and Labor. Cardinal Castillo noted that the mass also served to express gratitude for the Pope's recent improvements in health, specifically regarding his respiratory function.

Pope Leo XIV, 71, underwent surgery at the Gemelli Polyclinic in Rome on October 13 following the detection of a nodule in his right lung. The prayers come amid anticipation for the Pope's scheduled apostolic visit to Peru, currently planned for November 11 to 17, 2026.
