President Abinader begins European tour in Rome and Vatican

Dominican Republic President Luis Abinader has arrived in Rome to begin an international diplomatic tour. His agenda includes a state visit to the Vatican for an audience with Pope Leo XIV, where he intends to formally invite the pontiff to visit the Dominican Republic in 2027.

Abinader is also participating in the FAO World Food Forum. During the event, the Dominican Republic is expected to receive recognition for its progress toward the ‘Zero Hunger’ goal, having maintained undernourishment levels below 2.5%. The President is scheduled to meet with FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu and other international officials to discuss food security and agricultural policies.

Additionally, the President inaugurated the ‘Parada Dominicana’ in Rome to celebrate the culture and contributions of the approximately 6,000 Dominicans residing in the Italian capital. The tour will continue with a trip to Prague, Czech Republic, to attend the 30th Annual Forum 2000 conference.
