President Mahama addresses World Assemblies of God Congress in Accra
President John Dramani Mahama addressed the 10th World Assemblies of God Congress in Accra, emphasizing his commitment to inclusive governance and religious diversity in Ghana. He noted that his dedication to treating all citizens equally, regardless of faith, has occasionally led some Christian leaders to question his own religious convictions. Mahama described Ghana’s religious plurality as a national asset and urged for mutual respect among different faith groups.
During his speech, the President also called on religious and family institutions to prioritize the mentorship and protection of young people, who face unique pressures from digital connectivity and misinformation. He urged churches to create supportive environments where youth can find purpose and assume meaningful responsibilities. Additionally, Mahama advocated for the greater recognition of women leaders and their contributions to nation-building and congregational life.
The congress, which is the first time the fellowship has met on African soil, expects over 10,000 participants from approximately 100 countries. The event was hosted at the Accra International Conference Centre following logistical adjustments regarding the original venue.
