President Mahama summons TDC and Tema officials over housing dispute

President John Dramani Mahama has summoned the Managing Director of TDC Company Limited, Courage Nunekpeku, and the Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, Ebi Bright, to resolve a dispute regarding a development project at Community One, Site Three in Tema.

The conflict arose after the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) issued a stop-work order, alleging that TDC was proceeding without necessary permits. The Assembly also raised concerns regarding the demolition of structures, the cutting of approximately 50 trees, and the encroachment on green belts and playgrounds.

TDC Ghana Ltd has criticized the TMA, stating that officials demolished preparatory works on August 12, before the seven-day response period granted in the August 7 stop-work order had expired. The company described the demolition as “deeply regrettable” and emphasized that the project is intended to support the government’s national housing delivery programme.

A meeting involving the Ministers for Local Government and for Works, Housing and Water Resources is scheduled for Monday, August 17, 2026, to address the impasse and determine the future of the development.
