President Marcos vows safe BARMM parliamentary elections on Sept. 14
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has committed to ensuring that the first parliamentary elections in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) are safe, peaceful, and credible. Scheduled for September 14, these elections follow several postponements and a legal reset necessitated by a Supreme Court ruling on redistricting laws.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2026 National Peace Consciousness Month, the President emphasized the importance of sustained peacebuilding as a foundation for nation-building. The event also marks significant milestones in Philippine peace history, including the 30th anniversary of the 1996 Final Peace Agreement with the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) and the 40th anniversary of the 1986 Mount Data Peace Accord with the Cordillera Bodong Administration-Cordillera People’s Liberation Army (CBA-CPLA).
Marcos urged citizens to support the government’s peace agenda, noting that consistent dialogue is essential to settling differences and creating an environment free from lawlessness. He pledged that the administration would protect the rights of Bangsamoro voters to participate in the democratic process without fear.
