President Museveni seeks Japanese investment and road equipment for Uganda

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has called for increased Japanese investment in Uganda, with a specific focus on the agro-processing sector. During a meeting with a Japanese delegation led by Takahashi Misako at State House, Entebbe, the President emphasized the need to strengthen bilateral cooperation across various sectors, including energy, education, health, and youth development.

To accelerate national infrastructure development, Museveni urged Japan to support Uganda with road construction equipment. He proposed that local governments should possess their own dedicated machinery—such as graders, trucks, and compactors—rather than relying on shared equipment between districts. The President noted that the machinery does not need to be new, provided it is durable and capable of being maintained locally. He cited previous purchases from Japanese companies like Komatsu as a model for future acquisitions.

Additionally, Museveni expressed a desire to meet with Japanese companies currently operating in Uganda to discuss operational challenges and explore ways to improve their business environment.
