President Nicușor Dan Urges High Standards for Romania's Ministry of Internal Affairs
President Nicușor Dan marked the 164th anniversary of Romania's Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) with a message praising its role in protecting citizens and urging the adoption of higher performance standards across all subordinate units, including the police, gendarmerie, border police and emergency services.
He stressed the need to combat domestic violence, abuse against women, and the growing threat of drug consumption and trafficking, calling prevention and education national priorities. "Prevenirea și combaterea traficului și consumului de droguri reprezintă o prioritate la nivel mondial," he said, adding that cooperation among state, institutions and society is essential.
Dan also highlighted the ministry’s key contribution to Romania’s accession to the Schengen area, noting the progress made in fighting illegal migration and human trafficking to secure the eastern NATO‑EU border. He concluded by thanking the MAI personnel, both active and retired, for their dedication and sacrifices.
