President Nikos Christodoulides on Cyprus UN talks window and EU cultural agenda

President Nikos Christodoulides said there is a limited "window of opportunity" for advancing the Cyprus issue before the current term of the UN Secretary‑General ends, urging the resumption of negotiations and noting the personal commitment of the Secretary‑General. He added that this period should be used to achieve a positive outcome rather than allowing talks to drag on indefinitely.

Christodoulides also highlighted the Cyprus Presidency of the European Union Council’s cultural priorities, stating that the presidency aims to complete negotiations on the EU Cultural Compass and sign a joint declaration titled “Europe for Culture, Culture for Europe”. He emphasized the importance of protecting cultural heritage, combating illegal trafficking of cultural goods, and using culture as a bridge between peoples and a tool for European cohesion.
