President Petr Pavel hosts Jordanian King Abdullah II at Prague Castle

Czech President Petr Pavel is hosting Jordanian King Abdullah II and Queen Rania at Prague Castle for an official visit. The discussions are expected to focus on economic and defense cooperation, as well as the current security situation in the Middle East. Jordan is considered a key partner for the Czech Republic, particularly regarding regional stability, humanitarian aid, and military medical logistics.

During the visit, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi will also meet with Czech Foreign Minister Petr Macinka. This meeting occurs amidst ongoing political tension between Macinka and President Pavel. Despite calls from Prime Minister Andrej Babiš for the two leaders to reconcile and hold direct meetings to reduce political friction, Macinka has stated he has no plans to schedule a meeting with the President, noting, “I don’t need to settle anything with the President.”

Long-standing cooperation between the two nations includes the Medevac program, which has facilitated numerous medical missions in Jordan, and recent humanitarian aid sent to Gaza via Jordanian field hospitals.
