Jordanian royal visit to the Czech Republic

King Abdullah II and Queen Rania of Jordan conducted an official visit to the Czech Republic to engage in diplomatic and economic discussions with Czech leadership.

President Petr Pavel hosted the royal couple at Prague Castle, focusing on Middle East security, regional stability, and humanitarian aid. Discussions also touched upon long-standing cooperation such as the Medevac program and medical missions. Prime Minister Andrej Babiš held meetings at Kramářova Villa to address economic opportunities, specifically regarding Jordanian strategic projects in energy, water management, and the defense industry.

The royal visit coincided with broader discussions regarding international security and domestic political dynamics. During a security conference in Prague, NATO Ambassador Matthew Whitaker criticized the Czech Republic for “insufficient defense spending,” emphasizing the need for European nations to take greater responsibility for their own defense.

Domestically, the visit appeared to facilitate a thawing of political tensions within the Czech leadership. President Petr Pavel and Foreign Minister Petr Macinka, who had previously faced friction, were seen interacting during the proceedings. Additionally, Prime Minister Babiš indicated a willingness to engage in more standard communication with the President following prior disputes regarding presidential powers.
