President Prabowo pushes broad bureaucratic and police reforms in Indonesia

President Prabowo Subianto reiterated his commitment to deepen reform across Indonesia’s government institutions, emphasizing professional, corruption‑free bureaucracy, stronger civil supremacy and modernized public services. He framed reform as essential for the nation’s competitiveness amid global economic and security challenges.

Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights Otto Hasibuan, representing the Police Reform Acceleration Commission, highlighted the need to strengthen the National Police Commission (Kompolnas) as part of the police reform agenda. He said Kompolnas should be granted binding authority to make decisions, conduct investigations and enforce police code‑of‑ethics, and urged changes to 32 police regulations. The commission plans to issue a presidential decree to implement these recommendations, aiming for a more professional, transparent and accountable police force.

Both officials linked the reforms to broader goals of improving public trust, enhancing rule of law, and ensuring Indonesia’s institutions can respond effectively to domestic and international challenges.
