President Prabowo Subianto Appoints New Nutrition Agency Chiefs as Travel Spending Comes Under Scrutiny

On June 8, 2026 President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated Nanik S. Deyang as the new chief of Indonesia’s National Nutrition Agency (BGN), with Trenggono and Agustina Arumsari appointed as deputy heads. They replace three former BGN leaders who have been detained in a corruption probe over the free nutritious meal programme. In the same ceremony Prabowo appointed labor‑union leader Said Iqbal as the President’s Special Advisor for Labor and Worker Welfare. The oath‑taking was attended by Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, ministers, security chiefs and other officials.

Separately, observers have criticised Prabowo’s pattern of frequent overseas trips. Over the past 18 months he has made more than 50 foreign visits, despite a presidential decree that cut the official overseas‑travel budget by 50 % to save roughly Rp15 trillion. Analysts question whether the trips yield the claimed investment benefits and highlight concerns about transparency, accountability and the consistency of the austerity message.
