President Prabowo Subianto delivers Indonesia's 2027 fiscal framework speech to parliament

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa confirmed that there is no legal requirement for the Minister of Finance to present the Kerangka Ekonomi Makro dan Pokok‑Pokok Kebijakan Fiskal (KEM‑PPKF). This made the May 20, 2026 plenary session of the DPR the first occasion in which President Prabowo Subianto personally presented the 2027 macro‑economic and fiscal policy framework.

The president said he was speaking to convey “important messages” and highlight the government’s flagship programmes ahead of the upcoming APBN (state budget) for 2027. He timed the address to coincide with Hari Kebangkitan Nasional (National Awakening Day) to unite national outlook and strengthen the country’s economic stewardship. The session also covered legislative evaluations and a proposal to amend the 2002 Police Law, but the presidential speech on the KEM‑PPKF was the headline event.

The move reflects a shift in Indonesia’s budget communication practice, emphasizing the president’s direct role in setting fiscal priorities for the coming year.
