President Prabowo Subianto selects new Bank Indonesia governor and mineral exchange chief

President Prabowo Subianto is moving to fill two senior financial regulator posts. He will submit a list of candidates to the Indonesian parliament for the head of the Executive of the Mineral Exchange and Strategic Commodities Supervision, a role within the Financial Services Authority (OJK). The OJK has already formed a task force to prepare the infrastructure and regulatory framework for the new mineral exchange.

At the same time, Prabowo is accelerating the appointment of a new Bank Indonesia governor after Perry Warjiyo’s sudden resignation. Destry Damayanti, a senior deputy governor since 2019, is the frontrunner, with her name on the president’s shortlist. The nomination will undergo a fit‑and‑proper test when parliament reconvenes, and a second deputy, Aida Budiman, is expected to be named deputy governor. The move aims to restore market confidence and support Prabowo’s goal of raising economic growth to about 8% amid a weakening rupiah and capital outflows.
