President Ramaphosa to convene AU C5 meeting on South Sudan
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, acting as Chairperson of the African Union High-Level Ad Hoc Committee on South Sudan (C5), will convene a virtual meeting on September 29, 2026. The meeting includes the C5 members—South Africa, Algeria, Chad, Nigeria, and Rwanda—alongside Member States of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).
The session aims to assess the political situation in South Sudan in anticipation of the elections scheduled for December 22, 2026. Participants will review progress made since the C5 Plus Summit in Addis Ababa and evaluate recent regional engagements, such as the July 2026 ministerial visit to Juba and assessments by the AU Peace and Security Council and the AU High Representative for the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea.
The objective is to identify necessary regional and continental support to advance peace, stability, and a credible political transition in South Sudan.
