Tinubu approves Ibom Deep Seaport project in Akwa Ibom
President Bola Tinubu has approved the Ibom Deep Seaport project in Akwa Ibom State, a move expected to boost maritime trade, industrial development, and employment in Nigeria’s South-South region. The announcement was made on Friday during an All Progressives Congress (APC) rally at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
The approval followed a request from Governor Umo Eno, who described the seaport as a critical economic priority capable of serving as a major transshipment hub. In exchange for the project, Governor Eno pledged that Akwa Ibom would deliver two million votes for Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
During his visit to the state, the President also inaugurated several other projects, including the international terminal at Victor Attah International Airport. He noted that the airport inauguration marks the commencement of international flight operations at the facility. Tinubu also recalled his professional history in the state, having previously worked as an auditor for Mobil in Akwa Ibom.
