President William Ruto addresses opposition and African Union reforms
During Mashujaa Day celebrations in Eldoret, Kenyan President William Ruto criticized opposition leaders, specifically targeting the Linda Mwananchi movement and Senator Edwin Sifuna. Ruto argued that political competition should focus on concrete policies and development rather than tribalism or mere power struggles. He emphasized that democracy and freedom are ineffective if they do not result in improved economic opportunities, public services, and better living standards for citizens.
Separately, at the Trust Summit in Nairobi, African Union Deputy Chairperson Selma Malika Haddadi recognized Ruto’s role as the AU Champion for Institutional Reform. Haddadi noted his efforts to advance a more accountable and financially sustainable Union. She called for increased political commitment and consistent funding from African governments to support integration efforts such as Agenda 2063 and the African Continental Free Trade Area.
