President William Ruto criticizes Uhuru Kenyatta during Siaya tour

During a development tour of Siaya County, President William Ruto criticized former President Uhuru Kenyatta, accusing him of acting as a “rebel leader” and an opposition figure rather than a statesman. Ruto urged the Siaya County Governor to focus on serving the residents instead of being used by Kenyatta to oppose government programs.

Ruto expressed confidence in the Broad-Based Government—comprising the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), and Kenya Kwanza—predicting a landslide victory in the next election due to its development track record. He cautioned citizens against supporting political parties that lack a clear vision or track record.

The visit also highlighted internal political tensions within Siaya. In Rarieda, County Assembly Speaker George Okode faced heckling from a crowd while attempting to rally support for MP Otiende Amollo. Okode attributed the hostility to political rivalries involving former MP Nicholas Gumbo as leaders position themselves for the Siaya governorship ahead of the 2027 General Election.
