President William Ruto defends administration amid political criticism

President William Ruto has accused former President Uhuru Kenyatta of mobilizing opposition to sabotage key government initiatives, including the Affordable Housing Programme and the Social Health Authority. Speaking during a development tour in the North Rift, Ruto claimed the former leader is displeased with his administration's performance in health, education, and the economy.

During the tour, Ruto inaugurated several infrastructure projects, including the Kiminini-Mitoto-Ndalu-Brigadier Road and a KSh 922 million electricity connectivity scheme aimed at linking over 8,000 households to the national grid. He also expressed confidence in his ability to secure a second term in the 2027 General Election.

In a separate political development, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua criticized the administration over rising fuel costs. Gachagua alleged that President Ruto ordered increases for petrol and diesel to fund political activities ahead of the 2027 elections. Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi disputed these claims, stating that the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) holds the legal mandate to determine fuel prices. Following a review, EPRA announced new prices effective October 15, with Nairobi's petrol price rising to KSh 226.96 per litre.
