Indonesia to provide incentives for one million domestic electric motorcycles
President Prabowo Subianto has announced a plan to provide significant incentives to Indonesian companies capable of producing one million electric motorcycles domestically. This initiative, part of the newly launched National Electric Motorcycle (Molinas) ecosystem, aims to accelerate transportation electrification, reduce fuel imports, and lower operational costs for the public.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto confirmed that the budget for these incentives is available and the implementation scheme is currently being finalized. The program is intended to align with the existing electric vehicle ecosystem, including battery development. The Indonesian Electric Motorcycle Industry Association (Aismoli) has welcomed the plan but is awaiting specific details regarding the mechanism, target recipients, and distribution methods.
Industry data indicates that Indonesia currently hosts 69 electric two- and three-wheeler companies with an annual production capacity of approximately 2.511 million units. Early adopters, such as Pos Indonesia, have reported significant cost savings, noting that monthly courier operational costs dropped from Rp750,000 to Rp250,000 after switching to electric vehicles. Meanwhile, the International Battery Summit 2026 is also set to take place in Jakarta to further strengthen the nation's position in the global battery industry and energy transition.
