Prestone Tinsong says BJP expansion poses no threat to NPP

Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister and National People's Party (NPP) state president Prestone Tinsong has stated that the recent expansion of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) poses no threat to the NPP. Tinsong emphasized that all 33 NPP MLAs remain united, asserting there is '101 percent unity' within the party.

Despite the BJP's numbers increasing to 10 following the inclusion of eight former UDP MLAs, Tinsong clarified that there will be no immediate changes to the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government. Regarding the proposed Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) amendments, Tinsong noted that concerns are not exclusive to Christian organizations but apply to all entities receiving foreign funds. He welcomed the decision to refer the bill to a joint parliamentary committee.

During campaign activities for the upcoming Shillong Lok Sabha by-election, Tinsong criticized the opposition Janaki's Voice Party (VPP), accusing them of using social media to spread misinformation. He also addressed border security, noting that daily attempts to cross the international border with Bangladesh are being intercepted, and called for increased vigilance in difficult terrains.
