Morena appoints Andrea Chávez as coordinator in Ciudad Juárez
Morena has appointed Senator Andrea Chávez Treviño as the Municipal Coordinator for the Defense of Transformation and National Sovereignty in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua. This designation follows her recent second-place finish in the internal process to define the party's state-level coordination for Chihuahua, a position that was awarded to Cruz Pérez Cuéllar.
The appointment, announced by the party's national leadership including Ariadna Montiel and Citlalli Hernández, is framed as a strategic move to strengthen territorial organization and maintain party unity ahead of the 2027 elections. While the role of municipal coordinator is a party organizational position rather than a formal candidacy, it positions Chávez as a primary figure for the upcoming municipal race in Juárez.
The decision has drawn criticism from within the movement. Some party members and figures like Tatiana Clouthier have questioned the lack of a formal call for municipal coordinations prior to the appointment, suggesting it bypasses established democratic methods. Additionally, Martín Chaparro, a founding member of Morena, characterized the move as a return to the “old and known finger-pointing” (dedazo) method of selection.
