Pride parades held in Görlitz-Zgorzelec and Bernau

Christopher Street Day (CSD) pride parades took place in Görlitz-Zgorzelec and Bernau, Germany, with participants demonstrating for equality, diversity, and protection against hate crime.

In the border city of Görlitz-Zgorzelec, approximately 750 people participated in a four-kilometer parade through both cities. The event proceeded peacefully despite a small counter-protest of about 50 people. The organizers had previously resolved a legal dispute regarding whether a planned 'Picnic of Diversity' should be classified as a political demonstration.

In Bernau, participants marched under the motto 'More glitter, less hate' to advocate for legal equality and social acceptance. Organizers highlighted concerns regarding rising hate crime, noting that Brandenburg recorded 589 queerphobic incidents last year. Specific demands included barrier-free access to medical care, the preservation of safe spaces, and action plans to combat anti-LGBTQ+ sentiment in schools and workplaces.
