Priessnitz spas norovirus outbreak in Jeseník stabilizes

The gastrointestinal illness outbreak at the Priessnitz medicinal spas in Jeseník has stabilized. The Regional Hygiene Station of the Olomouc Region reported a total of 142 cases involving symptoms such as diarrhea and vomiting.

Laboratory tests confirmed the presence of noroviruses in two patients. While hygienists inspected food samples, the testing of three prepared meals showed no evidence of foodborne pathogens. Officials noted that because noroviruses are highly contagious and spread easily through person-to-person contact or contaminated surfaces, it is often difficult to pinpoint a single original source once the virus enters a group setting.

As of late August, new cases have dropped significantly, with only two new cases of mild clinical symptoms reported over a recent weekend. The facility has implemented anti-epidemic measures to prevent further spread.
