Prilep-Bitola highway construction progresses with first kilometers expected next year

The construction of the Prilep-Bitola highway is progressing steadily, with the first kilometers of the 40-kilometer route expected to be operational by next year. The project, which is part of the Corridors 8 and 10d development, is being executed by the Bechtel-Enka consortium. While the final completion deadline for the entire highway is set for 2027 or 2029, officials expect significant progress on the 3+3 lane sections and auxiliary roads in the near term.

In addition to the highway, the Ministry of Transport is investing approximately 9.5 million euros into Prilep for urban development, including new streets, water, and sewage systems. This includes a 350,000 euro program supported by the World Bank. Furthermore, 1.5 million euros have been allocated for a social housing project, with the building expected to be finished by the end of the year and apartments distributed by spring.

Local authorities in Prilep report a major investment cycle, with over 12 million euros in development projects implemented over the last two years. These include water network reconstructions, bridge rehabilitation at the Tabana site, and various road and sidewalk improvements. The municipality has also secured 168 million denars for road infrastructure over a three-year period.
