Prima Sport to launch free sports TV channel in the Czech Republic

The Prima media group has announced plans to start a new free‑to‑air sports channel called Prima Sport, targeting a launch on Monday 17 August (the date is still to be confirmed). The channel will operate under a twelve‑year licence, broadcasting 15‑24 hours a day via terrestrial digital and internet platforms.

Programming will feature Czech ice‑hockey (Maxa liga), domestic football (Chance National League) plus the Polish league, floorball, volleyball, basketball, beach volleyball, motorsport (rally, truck racing, motocross), the Ski Classics series and e‑sports, together with magazines, podcasts and short‑form content. By being free to viewers, Prima Sport aims to attract households that do not subscribe to paid TV services and could reshape the sports‑broadcast market in both the Czech and Slovak regions.
