Prima Sport launch in Czech Republic
Entities: Sparta Prague · Perinvest Group · Lukáš Kubát · Olympique Lyon · Libor Bouček
Overview
In mid‑July 2026 Prima Media Group announced a free‑to‑air sports channel, Prima Sport, slated for an August launch under a twelve‑year terrestrial licence. The channel will broadcast 15‑24 hours daily, covering Czech ice‑hockey, domestic football, the Polish league, floorball, volleyball, basketball, beach volleyball, motorsport, the Ski Classics series and e‑sports, plus magazines, podcasts and short‑form content.
A test transmission on 4 August featured a UEFA Champions League qualifier (Sparta Prague vs Olympique Lyon). Regular programming began on 17 August, with Magenta TV allocating multiplex 24 and the channel being added to IPTV services. Prima Sport is produced in partnership with Perinvest Group, which has operated Sporty TV since 2024; Sporty TV is owned by Tomáš Petera and financially overseen by Johana Wimmerová of the GES Group.
Pay‑TV operators are preparing to carry Prima Sport, complying with rules that limit simultaneous device access, restrict ad‑skipping, protect sports‑rights and set wholesale‑distribution fees and EPG placement guidelines.
The channel’s debut broadcast was presented by Libor Bouček, with Betano sponsorship visible at the Letná stadium. Czech football analysts highlighted emerging talents such as Richard Sedláček, Tadeáš Vachoušek, Daniel Vašulín, Mojmír Chytil and Michal Sadílek, underscoring the depth of the domestic league as the nation approaches upcoming international fixtures.
