Primary Hydrogen stakes Northumberland hydrogen project in Nova Scotia
Primary Hydrogen Corp. has staked the Northumberland Natural Hydrogen Project in Cumberland County, Nova Scotia. The project consists of two exploration licences, 58173 and 58174, covering 72 claims across approximately 1,166 hectares along the northern margin of the Cumberland Basin.
The project area is situated between Northport and Pugwash and directly adjoins a licence block associated with a partnership between Kavenex Energy and Denver-based Koloma Inc. The Cumberland Basin has recently seen increased exploration activity, with some companies reporting high hydrogen readings in the region during 2026.
Primary Hydrogen’s initial work program will focus on data compilation, structural interpretation, and a soil-gas orientation survey. The company noted that there are currently no documented hydrogen occurrences or drilling on the Northumberland project itself. Future hydrogen rights in the area will be governed by Nova Scotia’s upcoming Subsurface Energy Resource Extraction Act.
