Prime Minister Ünal Üstel announces energy cooperation and sports funding boost in Northern Cyprus

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel visited the TMT Mujahideen Association in Northern Cyprus, marking the July 15 democracy day and the July 20 1974 operation. He highlighted the close partnership with Turkey, stating “Enerjide tarihi adımlar atıyoruz,” and announced a pre‑agreement to supply natural gas to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, stressing its strategic importance for energy security and economic development. The visit also included thanks for veteran support programmes such as the Gazi Card.

Üstel also outlined the government’s investment in sport, saying “Spora yapılan yatırım, geleceğe, gençliğe yapılan en değerli yatırımdır.” The sports budget was increased from roughly 20 million TL to about 1 billion TL, with plans to refurbish stadiums, build new sports complexes, and provide continuous support for athletes facing international embargoes. He praised recent achievements of Northern Cyprus athletes and pledged further assistance.
