Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits Seychelles, signs 19 bilateral agreements

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Victoria for a three‑day state visit to the Republic of Seychelles, where he was welcomed by President Patrick Herminie and awarded the “Guardian of the Blue Horizon” honour. During the visit India and Seychelles signed 19 agreements covering defence, digital payments (UPI‑based MoU), space cooperation, health, agriculture, education and an extradition treaty. India gifted a fast patrol vessel, five laser‑radial boats, ten utility vehicles, six ambulances, 500 metric tons of rice, 8,500 metric tons of cement and other aid to boost Seychelles’ maritime security and disaster resilience. Modi addressed the Seychelles National Assembly, becoming the first Indian prime minister to do so, and highlighted the shared heritage of the Indian Ocean, climate‑justice concerns for the Global South, and plans for joint work on fisheries, renewable energy and tourism. Cultural exchanges featured the feeding of Aldabra giant tortoises at the National Botanical Garden and performances by local artists.
