Japan's Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae makes Yasukuni Shrine offering

Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae provided a monetary offering, known as ‘tamagushiryo’, to the Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo during its autumn festival. While she did not personally visit the shrine, she submitted the offering using her own private funds and also sent a ‘masakaki’ ritual offering in her capacity as Prime Minister.

Several high-ranking Japanese officials and members of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) participated in visits to the shrine. These included Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Ibayashi Tatsunori, LDP Election Strategy Committee Chair Nishimura Yasutoshi, and other cabinet members and lawmakers. The shrine is a site that honors those killed in war, including individuals convicted of war crimes following World War II.

The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed strong opposition and condemnation regarding these actions. Spokesperson Mao Ning stated that China has lodged a serious protest, asserting that the shrine serves as a symbol of Japanese militarism. China urged Japan to face its history and repent for past crimes to gain the trust of its Asian neighbors and the international community.
