Prime Video Announces Film 'Marília' Starring Marina Versos as Marília Mendonça

Amazon MGM Studios' Prime Video revealed a new feature film titled “Marília” that will dramatize the life of Brazilian sertanejo star Marília Mendonça (1995‑2021). The 24‑year‑old singer‑actress Marina Versos of Goiânia was chosen as the lead after a selection process that involved about a thousand candidates.

The cast also includes Hermila Guedes, Klara Castanho, Marcelo Serrado, Sophia Valverde and several other Brazilian performers. The picture is directed by Dainara Toffoli with a script by Carina Schulze and Patrícia Andrade, and filming is scheduled to begin in July 2026.

Javiera Balmaceda, Head of Originals for Latin America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand at Amazon MGM Studios, said the team “had a careful, thoughtful search to honor and preserve Marília’s legacy” and that “Marina Versos was a pleasant surprise – a singer from Goiânia who impressed us with her vocal power and deep connection to Marília’s work.” A documentary series, “Marília Mendonça: Sentimento Louco,” is also in development, but no release date for the film has been announced.
