Prime Video completes filming of Marília Mendonça biopic

Prime Video has announced the completion of filming for the original movie ‘Marília’, a biographical project centered on the life of the late Brazilian singer Marília Mendonça. Filming took place in Goiânia and São Paulo starting in July.

The film is scheduled for release in 2027. It follows the documentary series ‘Marília Mendonça: Sentimento Louco’, which is set to premiere on October 16. The movie is produced by Chatrone and Gullane, directed by Dainara Toffoli, and written by Carina Schulze and Patrícia Andrade.

Marina Versos has been cast to portray Marília Mendonça. The ensemble cast includes Hermila Guedes as Dona Ruth, Klara Castanho as Maiara, Sophia Valverde as Maraisa, and Marcelo Serrado as Wander Oliveira, among others. The narrative will explore Mendonça’s journey from her adolescence singing in church to her rise as a major musical figure in Brazil, highlighting her struggles within a male-dominated industry and her impact on female audiences.
