Prisoner arrested in Ostuni after fleeing Trani prison

A 40-year-old man from Andria, serving a sentence for robbery at the Trani prison, has been arrested in Ostuni after being missing since last August. The individual had failed to return to prison following a scheduled leave.

Following an investigation spanning San Vito dei Normanni and Ceglie Messapica, plainclothes Carabinieri identified and attempted to intercept the man near a hospital emergency room in Ostuni. The intervention led to a pursuit involving a vehicle collision. The man attempted to flee on foot through a busy central area before being apprehended by officers.

During the chase, the suspect sustained minor abrasions and was treated at a local emergency room. He has since been transferred to the Brindisi prison and faces additional charges of resisting a public official. Authorities are currently investigating whether he received assistance from others during his time as a fugitive.
