Procon expands consumer services and debt renegotiation in Rio de Janeiro

Consumer protection agencies in Rio de Janeiro are launching decentralized initiatives to assist citizens with debt and legal rights.

In Rio de Janeiro, Procon Carioca, through Sedecon, is hosting a massive debt renegotiation event at Parque Oeste in Campo Grande on August 27 and 28. The action involves 14 companies from various sectors, including major banks like Bradesco, Itaú, Santander, and Banco do Brasil, as well as utility providers such as Claro, Naturgy, and Light. The initiative aims to provide free guidance and facilitate debt settlements in a climate where approximately 45% of Brazil's adult population is currently in debt.

Simultaneously, Procon Macaé is extending its services to the Sana district to provide in-person assistance to residents of the mountainous region. This effort seeks to decentralize consumer defense services, allowing residents to register complaints and seek legal orientation without traveling to the city center. Officials indicate that if demand remains high, these mobile services may become monthly occurrences.
