Procter & Gamble beats quarterly earnings expectations

Procter & Gamble reported fiscal first-quarter results that exceeded analyst expectations, driven by a 4% rise in net sales to $23.3 billion. The company reported adjusted earnings per share of $2.00, surpassing the $1.88 anticipated by Wall Street.

Growth was primarily fueled by demand for laundry and home care products, with the company reporting a volume growth of 2.4%. Despite the strong start to the fiscal year, executives noted a bifurcated economy. High-income consumers continue to trade up to premium products, such as Pantene’s Abundant & Strong line, while low-income consumers are increasingly value-conscious, focusing on brands like Tide and Pampers to manage tight budgets.

CFO Andre Schulten highlighted an intense competitive environment and the ongoing challenge of balancing pricing with consumer demand. The company is addressing these shifts through promotional pricing, new pack sizes, and product innovation to maintain market share across different economic segments.
