Wildfires in Proença-a-Nova and Mirandela mobilize emergency responders

Multiple wildfires are currently being fought across Portugal, with significant activity in the municipalities of Proença-a-Nova and Mirandela. In Proença-a-Nova, two major fires in Alvito da Beira, Sobreira Formosa, and Atalaia have mobilized hundreds of emergency personnel and vehicles. While authorities report that approximately 70% to 80% of the perimeters in these areas have been contained, many hot spots remain. No injuries or residential damage have been reported, though significant damage to agricultural structures and forests has occurred.

In Mirandela, a fire in Cedães has also mobilized over 120 personnel. Combat efforts there have been complicated by steep terrain and wind conditions.

The Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has issued warnings regarding high fire risk levels across much of the country due to intense heat, low humidity, and strong winds. Dozens of municipalities remain under maximum or very high fire danger alerts.
