ProEtnica Intercultural Festival marks 25 years in Sighișoara

The 22nd edition of the ProEtnica Intercultural Festival has opened in the Sighișoara Medieval Citadel, marking 25 years since its inception. The event, which celebrates ethnic diversity and intercultural dialogue, features representatives from 20 officially recognized national minorities in Romania.

Despite facing significant financial difficulties and a loss of expected funding, the festival was saved through the solidarity of minority organizations, volunteers, and suppliers. The opening ceremony was attended by high-level officials, including the German Ambassador to Romania, Angela Ganninger, and representatives from the Romanian government. Ambassador Ganninger highlighted the importance of minority protection and the legal framework supporting ethnic communities in Romania.

The festival program, which runs until August 30, includes artistic performances, debates, exhibitions, and round tables focused on the rights of national minorities and social stability. Organized by the Interethnic Educational Centre for Youth Sighișoara, the event aims to foster peace and understanding through cultural exchange.
